A child's first dinner set holds more than food. It holds a memory.

SuRu is a handcrafted kids' dinner set in pure Kansa, the Ayurvedic alloy of copper and tin, made for children aged 0 to 7 and created with Nakuul Mehta and Jankee Parekh. It is named after their children, Sufi and Rumi, and built around the everyday reality of how small children actually eat. The spills, the awkward grip, the bowl that slides across the table. Each piece is shaped by the thatheras of Jandiala Guru, Punjab, the artisans behind India's only UNESCO-listed metalworking tradition.

Everything in the set is weighted for small hands. The thaali, katori, glass and spoon are light enough for a child to lift without struggle, and an anti-slip silicone ring on the underside of the thaali keeps the plate steady on a table, tray or high chair. Every edge is hand-smoothed, every curve rounded, because these pieces will be gripped, dropped, and sometimes chewed on by teething gums.

There is no plastic, no melamine, no chemical lining, and no coating anywhere in this set. Kansa is food-safe, FSSAI-compliant for daily food contact, and naturally anti-microbial. Ayurveda values it for its mineral richness and its role in supporting digestion, which is why it has been the traditional choice for eating vessels in Indian homes for centuries.

The thaali is hand-engraved with your child's name and finished with four playful motifs, so it becomes a marker of firsts. First meals, first birthdays, first attempts at independence. It arrives in a gift box with a musical card carrying the SuRu Fullaby mealtime rhyme and a keepsake note from Jankee and Nakuul. Rated 4.9 out of 5 across 48 reviews.

Care and Use

• Hand-wash only. Do not put in a dishwasher, and do not microwave
• Wash with mild soap and a soft sponge. Avoid steel wool and abrasive cleaners
• Dry thoroughly after every wash to prevent watermarks
• Kansa oxidises naturally over time and develops a darker patina. This is normal and does not affect safety or performance
• Restore shine using P•TAL x Happi Planet de-oxidising solution, or a homemade scrub of atta, salt and lemon
• Avoid leaving acidic foods sitting in the vessels for long periods
• Pure Kansa is non-magnetic, so a magnet that does not stick confirms you are holding the real thing

Warranty and Support

• Warranty: Lifetime warranty, built to outlast a lifetime of use
• Coverage: Manufacturing and craftsmanship defects in the Kansa pieces
• Not Covered: Natural oxidation and tarnishing, which is normal and can be restored with the de-oxidising solution, along with dents from misuse and damage from abrasive cleaning
• Note on Handcrafted Products: Slight variation in weight, size, and finish is characteristic of handmade pieces and is not a defect
